You Are Not Creative

You are not creative.

Was this the message you heard?

Probably passed down from a well meaning parent, teacher, or some authority. Maybe they hoped to keep you safe, to protect you from feeling vulnerable.

It may have made you feel small, easy to dismiss, or easy to identify.

It’s like color, primary blue and primary yellow are easy to identify. They are defined binaries, like good or bad. But when you begin to mix them they become complex, rich, and juicy.

You often can’t quite control the mix and it can feel destabilizing at first.

But, it’s where the magic happens.

The message you’ve gotten so many times is to stay on the predictable path, don’t mix your colors. When you hear that over and over you begin to believe it.

As children we’re tapped into the electric flow of the universe through play and imagination, and we’re full of possibility.

When you put effort into keeping colors separate the resistance unplugs you from the flow of the universe.

This is when life became a performance and YOU got tired.

This performance is such a narrow slice of life—pants that barely button and feel like they have a vice grip on your internal organs, like wearing a straight jacket. Life has less color, texture, and vibrancy as no more bare feet or midnight honeysuckle or surprise—it can take a painful slice out of your soul.

But you are creative. Surprise! We all are and that’s where the energy is.

You may identify as an atrophying artist or you may be longing to explore your creativity for the first time since you were a child.

What if saying “Yes” to this longing, to your creativity, and to your connection to be barefoot on the earth, to the shadows, to all the glorious shades of green, is exactly how to invite your energy back in?

What if the vulnerability electrified you?

Imagine a world where we breathe into our bellies, and tap into the universal flow of creativity to revitalize ourselves.

Simply moving towards what lights you up is a step into possibility. Making art with womxn who are actively practicing trust in their creativity is life affirming. This is a space where we breathe deep, share and enjoy with warm hearts, where we thrive together in creative flow.

You are creative.

You are complex and rich.

We welcome YOU,

Briah
